News From the Six Realms #18 – Introducing Roisin, the Nemesis System, Relationships, and Side Project Reveals

Say hello to Roisin, one of the game’s first planned nemesis’. She is another underling of the twins who aims to usurp Rowan’s position; an assassin-mage with a little something extra down below.

We are still working on the nemesis system, and it is still a ways off and subject to change, but I can reveal a few things:

First, each run will contain two nemesis’ (although they’ll probably be staggered). We’ll probably give you the option to either choose which ones you want, or for the game to decide at random (although some might be conditional, haven’t decided yet). One of the nemesis’ will be chosen from a pool of “desirable” characters, and if the right conditions are met, they can be defeated and brought under Rowan’s control. The other will come from a second pool of characters who aren’t particularly attractive, but offer other bonuses for defeat.Each nemesis will attack Rowan in a specific way. Roisin’s method, which will probably be popular with a few of you, is through Alexia. Lastly, each nemesis will have a special “bad end”, should you game over when they are active.

We’ve also been looking into ways to address two criticisms that come up a lot:

Firstly, a lot of patrons have said they have trouble getting character events they want, and though the weighting as helped, it still isn’t working as well as we would like. DM is working in a new system where instead of those events being random, the player can visit the NPC instead to trigger them, which will allow those players who want to see events with certain characters to do so easily. We’ll start to implement that in the near future, as it requires coding and moving some current ruler events.

Secondly, in regards to patron requests for more dominant content, we are planning to give Rowan a “staff”, that is, people who work directly under him (as opposed to the other NPCs who work for the twins). He’ll be able to dominate these without the issues raised by dominating most of the other characters currently in the game. In addition, when our new writer Yron is working at the proper rate, we’ll spend some time looking at old scenes and adding options for Rowan to be more active like the first scene, as requested.

Lastly, stuff is starting to pile up from the side project, so from now on I’ll be doing one side project reveal per week. Lookout for the next member of Jess’ party in the next couple of days.
